  • John 12:1,2 – Six days before the Passover Festival,a Jesus came to the town of Bethany. Lazarus was there—the one whom Jesus had raised from death. 2They gave a dinner for Jesus there. Martha was helping, and Lazarus was one of the guests with Jesus.
  • John 19:31 – The Jewish leaders did not want the bodies to stay on the crosses during the sabbath day. This sabbath was a very important one. So, since it was Friday,e they asked Pilate to hurry their death by breaking their legs. Then they could carry them away. Pilate allowed it.

  • In ancient times, it was common for the priests to rule the country through the king, and sometimes the high priest was also king.  In any case, the leaders of the official religion of a nation were sometimes more powerful than the king.  This was God’s plan for the Jews.
  • Mark 14:4-5 – Some of Jesus’ followers were there. They were very angry, saying to one another, “Why waste this perfume?” 5This could have been sold for more than 300 silver coinse and given to poor people. They yelled angry words at her.

He said, 5“Why wasn’t this perfume sold for 300 silver coins and given to some poor people?” 6(Judas did not say this because he cared about poor people. Judas was a thief; he was the one who was always carrying the group’s bag of money.)
  • Mark 14:6-9 – But Jesus said, “Leave her alone! Why are you bothering her? She has done a good deed to me. 7You will always have poor people with you. When you want to, you can do good things for them, but you won’t always have me! 8She did what she could. She put perfume on my body ahead of time to prepare it for when I am buried. 9I am telling you the truth: The Good News will be proclaimed in the whole world. Wherever it is told, what she did will be mentioned to remember her.”
  • Mark 14:10-11 – Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve apostles, went away to talk to the most important priests; he wanted to give Jesus to them. 11When they heard this, they were pleased. They promised to give Judas some money. Judas was waiting for the best way to give Jesus to them.
